Chapter 7 Review – Equations of Linear Relations

Can you:

  • Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form y = mx + b?
  • Write the equation of a line in general form Ax + By + C = 0?
  • Write the equation of a line in slope-point form yy1 = m(xx1)?
  • Determine if lines are parallel or perpindicular from the formula?
  • Calculate the x and y intercepts?

Study Tip:  Two weeks left until the final exam – make sure you are spreading out your studying to avoid cramming last minute. Spreading out your review also allows you to come get help when you run into a topic that you find difficult.

Math 10 – Jan 15: Review CH 6

Chapter 6 Review – Linear Relations and Graphing

Can you:

  • Identify linear and non-linear relations from graphs, data tables and equations?
  • Identify the correct usage of discrete and continuous data?
  • Graph relations from an equation or data table?
  • State the domain and range of a relation in words, set notation, interval notation, number lines and lists?
  • Determine if a relation is a function using the vertical line test?
  • Express a relation using function notation?
  • Calculate the slope of a line from a graph or data table?

Study Tip: You should be well on your way to finishing the sample provincial handed out in class…Want more practice provincials to try out? Check out the provincial exam website to get more sample exams. The more sample questions you see before the exam the better prepared you will be for the real thing!

Math 10 – Jan 14: Review CH 5

Chapter 5 Review – Factoring and Polynomials

Can you:

  • Find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF)?
  • Find the Lowest Common Multiple (LCM)?
  • Multiply binomials (FOIL)?
  • Factor polynomials by removing the GCF?
  • Factor trinomials by inspection?
  • Factor trinomials by grouping?
  • Recognize and factor special trinomials (difference of squares & perfect square trinomial)?
  • Use algebra tiles to model polynomial multiplication and factorization?

Study Tip: YouTube has hundreds of videos explaining factoring. If you find yourself getting stuck why not take a look online to see a concept explained. Some helpful channels to try are: Khan Academy, Your Teacher & My Geek Ride

Math 10 – Provincial Exam Information

We have finished the curriculum and will be spending the next two weeks preparing for the provincial exam. Please dedicate some study time out side of class each day to review of the materials we have covered in class. There are lots of resources available to help you prepare – online provincials, you tube videos, review booklets etc. Please see me if you need help understanding any of the material.

M Jan 13 – Finish Ch 2 Test, Review Ch 4.
T Jan 14 – Review Ch 5
W Jan 15 – Review Ch 6 (REWRITES AFTER SCHOOL)
Th Jan 16 – Review Ch 7
F Jan 17 – Review Ch 8 & 9 (REWRITES AFTER SCHOOL)

M Jan 20 – Review Ch 1, 2 & 3
T Jan 21 – In Class Exam pt 1

Math 10 – Jan 13: Review CH 4

Chapter 4 Review – Exponents and Radicals

Can you?

  • Use a factor tree to determine if a number is a perfrect square or cube?
  • Use exponent laws to simplify exponential expressions?
  • Simplify problems with negative exponents?
  • Simplify problems with fractional exponents?
  • Convert between mixed and entire radicals?

Study Tip: The end of each chapter in the text book has a chapter review and practice test… if you haven’t already tried out these questions now is a good time. Don’t forget to check your answers in the back of the book and get help for the problems that you find difficult.

The test took longer than expected to complete, so we will continue writing in class on Monday.

There are a number of student who need to write a missed test – learning support after school wednesday and friday is the time to get these tests finished! Please tidy up these loose ends ASAP!

Math 10 – Dec 19: Chapter 1 Test

Chapter one test today!

Congratulations! Only one more chapter to go and then we’re done Math 10! We will complete chapter 2 after the break and then spend two weeks on review and preparation for the final exam.

In class yesterday I handed out a summary of your test marks only. If there is a test that is bringing you down, now is a great time to think about rewriting. Consider finishing or finding your homework over the break so you are ready to rewrite in the new year.
